2018 Update: Canada Jobs for Filipinos, Available Positions, and Accredited Recruitment Agency Lists

class="fb-xfbml-parse-ignore">Share

As you might have seen in the news and on social media, Canada is in need of Filipino workers. There are those who are sceptical about what they have heard and seen. However, you better believe it but still be cautious about those job postings. From the Philippines, hopeful OFWs can apply for a job bound for Canada through several POEA-accredited recruitment agencies.

Since 2004, Canada has become home to thousands of Filipinos. In the year 2013, there was an estimate of 30,000 Filipinos who have acquired a permanent residency status in Canada and 40,000 OFWs who have acquired work permits under the Temporary Foreign Worker Program.

The number of hopeful OFWs is increasing each year. Are you one of them? As of January 2018, manpower recruitment agencies based in the Philippines are in need of machinists, caregivers, draftsmen, assemblers, industrial meat cutters (butchers), workers farm general, auto denters, pork production technicians, welders, painters, front desk agents, grocery clerks, cooks, and a lot more. Visit the POEA Job Vacancies page for an updated listing. (http://www.poea.gov.ph/cgi-bin/JobVacancies/jobsByCty.asp)

You don’t necessarily need to go through an agency to find a job in Canada. The CIC’s Work in Canada page has everything you need to know about the hiring process in the Canadian job market. However, it is definitely not easy. Before you proceed on working with an agency for a job in Canada, you should spend some time doing research about the agencies and reading on the process of hiring a foreign worker in Canada. Visit the CIC Work in Canada site. (https://www.canada.ca/en/work-canada.html)

If you have decided to work with an agency, you’d be glad to know that Canada is a No Placement Fee Country. According to the statement released by the Philippine Overseas Employment Agency (POEA) Administrator Hans Leo Cacdac, licensed recruitment agencies are not allowed to charge recruitment or placement fees to OFWs bound to countries that prohibit collection of such fees. Agencies that will be found charging placement fees to Filipino workers bound to ‘no placement fee countries’ will experience license cancellation.

Tips

RESEARCH. Make sure to do your due diligence in finding an accredited recruitment agency. At the very least, make sure that the agencies you are looking into are listed on the POEA website.
ASK AROUND. Get advices and recommendations from friends and online forums. Try to join groups of the same interest and ask people.
DO THE LEGWORK. Once you have selected one, the best and safest way to go about it is to visit the agency office yourself to confirm the status of the job posting. It is highly advisable to bring your complete documents so you can pass your documents as soon as you get the confirmation.
SET YOUR EXPECTATIONS AND PRIORITIES. See if the job vacancy truly fit to your work experience and qualification. Inquire about the job from the agency including the description, requirements, salary, location and time frame.
IF IT IS TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE, IT MIGHT NOT BE LEGIT. Do not make any transactions to individual personnel who appear to be sketchy because they might just be pretending to be an agent of a recruitment agency. Also, never make transactions outside the office of the agencies.
POEA shared on their official facebook page www.facebook.com/poea.gov.ph/ guidelines on how to detect if the job is legit or a scam.
