Everyone is waiting for the 2017 application package for the Parent and Grandparent Sponsorship Program. Some already have their own courier preference so that they will be on time when the program reopens on January 03, 2017. It is also good news to everybody that the quota was increased from 5000 to 10,000 applications next year. But the Honourable John McCallum, Minister of Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada, announced the changes to how sponsorship applications will be submitted under the program’s reopening this 2017.

Here are the Three Major Changes on how to submit your applications for the 2017 Parent and Grandparent Sponsorship Program:

  1. Instead of submitting the application package by courier or mail on January 03, 2017, SPONSORS need to fill out the online form to indicate your interest to bring your Parents or Grandparents.
  2. The online form will be available starting January 3, 2017, at IRCC website. Sponsors will have 30 days to submit the form. (I just hope that they are ready for the number of individuals who will visit their website on this day. I hope that the website will not crash just like what happens last Donald Trump elections)
  3. IRCC will then RANDOMLY choose 10,000 individuals from those who filled out the form. And then they will be INVITED to send in their complete application package. (IRCC will post the new forms, guides or application package on January 09, 2017. Please make sure that you use the correct and updated forms)

“We’re listening to what past applicants had to say and making the process fairer for people who want to sponsor their parents or grandparents. We’re ensuring everyone can access the application process by giving them the same chance to have their name chosen.” – The Honourable John McCallum, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship

Do you think it is more convenient and fairer? Comment your thoughts below.
