Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) will accept an additional 30,000 applications under the 2021 Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP). Minister Marco Mendicino has announced the news last July 17, 2021.
There will be 40,000 applications this year when added the 10,000 already received last January 2021.
It will be on random selection process again. This will take place the week of September 20, 2021, after which invitations will be sent within two weeks.
New invitations will be sent thru email from September 20 for those selected candidates who have previously submitted interest to sponsor forms last year. They can also check online.
They will have 60 days to complete the full application through the IRCC’s new Permanent Resident Digital Intake tool.
Candidates will have their income assessed for tax years 2020, 2019 and 2018.
The income requirement will continue to be the minimum necessary income plus 30 percent due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
While waiting, IRCC strongly encourages applicants to make sure the information they submitted are up to date.
