Last month, it has been announced that the sponsorship of parent and grandparent program reopens on January 04, 2016. But last January 7, 2016, at Ottawa, the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) announced that the intake is now CLOSED. They received more than 14,000 new parent and grandparent applications in just 3 days since the program reopened.

They are now reviewing the first 5,000 complete applications received and will be placed in the inventory queue. Canada is committed to reuniting families and the Government of Canada is seeking to increase the intake of parent and grandparent sponsorship applications from 5,000 to 10,000 per year. Therefore, IRCC will retain the first 10,000 complete applications. Those applications that will not be added to the inventory will be returned by the IRCC.

In the meantime, the immigration is offering the Parent and Grandparent Super Visa program if we wish to extend their vacation here in Canada. The Super Visa offers the stay in Canada for up to two years rather than the regular tourist visa which is only a 6-month stay.
