Filipino Family Loses Father and Daughters in Fatal Crash in Delaware

A fun summer getaway turned into a tragedy on Friday, July 6, 2018. The Trinidad family was able to spend a fun week together in Maryland as they kicked off the summer vacation. On their way back to New Jersey, their minivan struck a heavy-duty pickup truck taking the lives of five out of the six members of their family; the father and four daughters. The horrific car crash happened on the Delaware Highway 1, one of the state’s busiest highways.

The father, Audie Trinidad, was 61 years old, and his children include Kaitlyn (20 y/o), Danna (17y/o), and Allison & Melissa (13 y/o twins). The mother, Mary Rose Ballocanag, was in the passenger seat and survived. She is currently in a serious condition with multiple fractures at a Delaware hospital.

On Sunday, the police has identified the truck driver who slammed into their minivan as Alvin Hubbard. The 44-year-old was driving a Ford F-350 south on Route 1 when he lurched over the median. According to the report, he initially struck a Mercury Sable and then skid into the path of the family’s Toyota Sienna minivan.

It is still unknown at this time when Mary Rose will be waking up, and what type of support she will be needing. Their home community has been very supportive. In fact, a candle light vigil at Milton Votee Park in Teaneck, NJ was held in honour of the Trinidad family.

Friends of the Trinidad family have been gathering up all the efforts of everyone to collect any amount of support. They have set up a GoFundMe page to help cover funeral costs and Mary Rose’s medical bills. The page has already reached more $200,000 in donations.

Any kind of support will be very much appreciated. If you are unable to contribute financially, messages of encouragement, prayers and love for Mary Rose are welcomed by her extended family and friends.
