Earlier this year, the Minister directed the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) to begin a collaborative effort to reduce the processing times of Spousal Sponsorship applications. The objective is to make it faster and easier for Canadian citizens and permanent residents to reunite with their spouses.
Starting today, processing times for both in-Canada and outside Canada will be reduced further with most spousal applications being processed within 12 months. However, complex cases are different as they may require more time.
With that said, on December 15, 2016, the government will be releasing a new application kit for new sponsors that has been redesigned to be simpler and easier to understand.
According to the Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, John McCallum. these new changes are for a more efficient and more considerate process of reuniting families. He also said, “Bringing families together makes for a stronger Canada.” By the end of 2017, IRCC plans to admit 64,000 spouses and dependants which is a lot more than the average over the past 10 years.
This is great news for all Filipinos since we are all family-oriented who wants to be reunited here in Canada with our families in the Philippines. Watch out for the new application kit so you can start with your applications!
