Learn About the New MPNP Stream: Skilled Worker Overseas Stream (SWO)

Together with the Canada and Manitoba governments working towards the province’s 20-point Economic plan, the Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP) announced a number of changes. This move is reportedly called the MPNP Renewal.

The MPNP Renewal aims to improve Manitoba’s economic competitiveness by attracting new investments, fostering a skilled workforce, and encouraging new immigration possibilities. Under this, the MPNP will have four new or revised application streams:

1. International Education Stream (IES),
2. Business Investor Stream (BIS),
3. Skilled Worker in Manitoba Stream (SWM), and
4. Skilled Worker Overseas Stream (SWO).

Let us focus first on the Skilled Worker Overseas Stream (SWO).

The Skilled Worker Overseas Stream (SWO) is for international skilled worker applicants. Qualified candidates are expected to have in-demand skills and training which gives them high potentials to establish themselves in the labour market, possibly in related occupations, soon after arrival in Manitoba. This stream will be subdivided into two pathways:

• Manitoba Express Entry Pathway – This Pathway allows nomination of qualified applicants for the federal Express Entry program. Candidates should be demonstrating skills, training, and experience related to Manitoba’s In-demand Occupations list, and possessing a strong family connection to Manitoba.
• Human Capital Pathway – This Pathway is similar to the first one but is requiring more work experience related to Manitoba’s In-demand Occupations list, and abilities to be able to establish a career in the province right away.
