LOOK: Fil-Canadian Mikey Bustos is Coming to Canada, I WEAR SPEEDOS TOUR

Meet Toronto-born Pinoy YouTube personality, Mikey Bustos. You might have just seen his most recent viral video of a parody of “Despacito”, entitled “I Wear Speedos.” It currently has over 14 million views on YouTube.

 

Mikey joined  the reality show Canadian Idol back in 2003 where finished eighth place. It was the start of his music career. He got a couple of recording deals out of the whole experience, and a lot of life lessons to go with it.

 

He has several music releases, including a 2005 EP, Love Me Again, and a 2008 album, Memoirs Of A Superhero. However, his foray into comedy, he says, was unintentional.

 

Mikey started a YouTube channel for his music in 2011. He was inspired by other artists who found fame through the video-sharing website. He began uploading singing videos but later found out that he’ll eventually run out of songs if he keeps doing just that.

 

So, he started making videos with comedy skits and sketches. One of his comedic videos, a humorous tutorial on the Filipino accent, unexpectedly went viral and got 2.4M views. He then considered venturing into comedy and the rest is history.

 

Many of his YouTube videos feature his comedic take on Filipino culture, issues and politics. However, he makes sure to never overstep his boundaries with his jokes and spoofs. He is aware that there are kids among his audience so jokes are always family-friendly and non-offensive.

 

Aside from music and comedy, he also has a passion for ants! In another YouTube channel that he is running, one of his most viewed videos is about his ants trying to escape. In fact, this channel (@antscanada) has grown into a global ant farm business.
