Disclaimer: This is not an official attempt, but it was fun.Whether it is the longest or not, we just want to share this exciting and fun-filled get-together. We had a Boodle Fight to remember. A Boodle Fight in the Filipino culture came from the military practice of eating a meal without any cutlery and dishes. Instead, the people gathered practice ‘kamayan’ or eating using their hands (kamay) on babana leaves.

#HowWeStarted

We started as a small group called #PinoyCanada Tambayan then PCO (Pinoy Canada Ontario) was formed as an Charity Organization. Aside from this group, there are other groups like #TeamMB, #TeamBC and #TeamAB.  To bring all the members together, the group organized a summer get-together led by Jonats with a Boodle Fight with a Cause.

The Boodle Fight was set up on 10 long tables put side by side, equivalent to 25 meters long. The location was set in the Rizal Park of Canada. The long Boodle Fight was comprised of various Filipino dishes like Pork Chop, Fried Tilapia, Salted eggs, Ensaladang Talong, Okra, Tomatoes and surounded by lots of rice.

The get-together was attended by 129 members from different parts of Greater Toronto Area and some from outside GTA like Waterloo and Kitchener.

“Good food always tastes better when shared with friends,” according to one of the attendees from Winnipeg.

Of course, it was not just any ordinary Boodle Fight. It was for a good cause.

Each member paid $35 that covers the food, a t-shirt and a portion will be donated to the PCO foundation which aims to help our countrymen in the Philippines. In fact, twice a year, the foundation facilitates a careful selection of schools to become beneficiaries of the fundraising events. Last June, before the start of schools in the Philippines, the foundation set up a fundraising event to help out selected schools

#OtherGroups

Other cluster group also had their own Summer gatherings. #TeamBC of British Columbia led by Kamila del Rosario held their event last June 30 at the Victoria Park which was attended by 60 members.

#TeamMB of Manitoba led by Sweetie Dia, got together last July 20 at the Kildonan Park with 37 attendees.
