This is bold. And this is coloured
Jillian Mendoza, a caregiver, was pushing two boys, aged two and three, in a stroller along St. Clair Avenue West near Dufferin Street just after 11 a.m. on Wednesday when a vehicle accidentally reversed with enough power to mount the curb and drive into her.
In a security video from a store across the road, a Black SUV is seen beginning to parallel park. The SUV slowly reverses into the parking spot then suddenly appears to speed up and jump the curb eventually crashing into Mendoza.
According to the Police, Mendoza was trapped under the vehicle but was freed shortly after by emergency responders. She was taken to a local trauma centre with life-threatening injuries. As for the 82-year-old driver of the vehicle and both children, they were transported to the nearest hospital as a precaution.
Fortunately, the kids were safe and the driver has been cooperating with the officials.
Mendoza is a single mother working as a caregiver. She is in the process of obtaining her Canadian residency so she can provide and support her daughter, Ohana.
As of now, Mendoza has been recovering well after going through 6 surgeries. Her family, including her daughter, are very proud of her heroic act. They cannot wait to see her back on her feet again.
