Jake Madula was a beloved member of the Filipino community in Manitoba, a caring husband to Emely, a dedicated father to his son and most importantly, he was a migrant worker! Hailing from Laguna, Jake decided to make the difficult decision to migrate to Canada in order to provide for his budding family back home. In 2016, he was able to gain his permanent resident status and migrate his family to Manitoba the same year.
Sadly, Jake’s life came to an abrupt end when a pick-up truck he was riding met an unfortunate accident near the community of Rossburn. With this, his dreams for his family and his unborn child came to an abrupt and tragic end.
As per RCMP report, the pick up was heading eastbound, way to their work, when they lost control on the gravel road. There were 4 pinoys including Jake, ejected and killed at the scene. Jake, who was seating in front, was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of crash.
Our online community is being called to respond to the passing away of Jake by donating any sum of financial help to his GoFundMe page: https://www.gofundme.com/help-us-bring-jake-home. This will help ease the cost of repatriating Jake’s remains, as well as cover any expense that will arise from his untimely demise. Let us give his family a fresh start in life by giving any amount we can. His wife, Emely, is due to give birth this November.
Lastly, we fervently call on the Philippine Consulate General in Manitoba to provide the needed assistance to Jake’s family in this trying time. Filipino migrant workers contribute to keeping the Philippine economy through our remittances, and when migrant workers are placed in the most vulnerable situations, our government must extend its hand at all cost.
