Cheryll Domincel is a Pinay single mother from Nueva Vizcaya. She has been in Canada for almost 4 years now and she has worked so hard to sponsor her daughter, V-Nyx Kate Domincel, to be with her. She was heartbroken when V-Nyx was diagnosed with Leukemia last year.
It was a very difficult time for Cheryll to be away from her daughter battling Leukemia but she just did what any mother would do for her child. She worked 7 days a week to earn money to pay for all the hospital bills because medical treatments in the Philippines can be very costly. A chemotherapy session would cost a little over $1800 and V-Nyx needed it once a week.
Finally, last November 2018, Cheryll was reunited with her daughter. In order to start their better future together, they started to seek treatment for V-Nyx at the Sick Kids Hospital right away. A couple of months has passed and V-Nyx has been nothing but cooperative and optimistic about all of the procedures and medications.
On V-Nyx’ 18th birthday which she celebrated at the Hospital, Cheryll was very happy to see her daughter happy despite her condition. With the help of supportive nurses , V-Nyx looked beautiful with makeup and a wig on. Sadly, that was her last birthday as she passed away on February 24th. She will be remembered for her charming smile, admirable courage and commendable optimism. She was a confident and loving girl who has touched the lives of her friends and family.
Melissa Miaco, a friend of V-Nyx, has started up a GoFundMe campaign to help her friend’s mother, Cheryll, bring her body back to the Philippines and give her loved ones the chance to say their final goodbyes. Any amount will help and will be very much appreciated. Visit the campaign here.
